Diabetes Empowerment Network

Living the Sweet Life

Diabetes is one of the most serious health problems that the African American community faces today. Compared to the general population, black men are more likely to develop diabetes — our mission is to change that statistic.

In 2019, we are launching a Diabetes Empowerment Network (DEN) program focused on educating men in the Kent County area about the risk factors for diabetes and other health issues that disproportionately affect black men.

Featuring educational classes, cooking classes and group meetings, the program will be a fun and supportive environment where you can learn to reduce your risk and live the sweet life, even if you already have been diagnosed with the disease.

What to expect

Knowledge

Understanding the risk factors and the symptoms is just the beginning of taking control of your health.
Participants receive a health and wellness toolkit, along with a needs assessment to develop a personalized plan of action to take charge of individual health issues.

Outreach

We provide your church or neighborhood group with resources for creating awareness about diabetes among members and families.
We provide presentations, health screenings, regular meetings, check-ins and health information.

Stronger Together

You're not alone. Black men are 3x more likely to develop diabetes. Our peer-driven group gives you the support you need.

Our program is aimed at giving you the support you need to change not only your lifestyle, but that of your family as well.

Empowerment

Our goal is to empower you and your family to live a long and healthy life.
Men in our program will not only learn how to eliminate risk factors, but also to understand that the disease is manageable with simple lifestyle changes.
